It takes a certain kind of band to promote itself as "hard-core party animals," but that's exactly what the Burnaby-based Shocore is aiming for, says lead singer Cory White.

"We basically wanted songs that were for us," White told the Burnaby NOW last week, as the band's second CD, Evilution, was being shipped to music stores for release and sale this week.

Almost one year after Shocore burst onto the charts with their debut CD Devil Rock Disco, featuring the local hit Bonecracker, the hard rock band is back and hoping for more.

"We want the kind of songs that kicked our butts and made us rock out when we were young," says White. For listeners, that means the new CD has hints of Judas Priest and AC/DC to Nazareth and even local legends Trooper.

Think of heavy, grinding and loud guitars with lots of references to the devil, drugs and scantily clad females. Just perfect for their target audience of 18- to 35-year-old males.

"Leave your issues at the door, come and rock out and be entertained," said White. "There are no sociopolitical undertones. We're poking fun at the comedy of the devil."

Ah yes, youthful bliss. But what would George W. Bush think?

Evilution is distributed by Linus Entertainment and features guest tracks by Holly McNarland and the Headstone's Hugh Dillon. If you really want to hear what they're all about, tune to CFOX 99.3 on the FM dial. Their first single, Bonecracker, was played during the recent Stanley Cup finals.
