Movers and Shakers column

He may have lost the election, but Bill Cunningham continues to keep up his work promoting the federal Liberal party in Burnaby.

Cunningham, who ran in the Burnaby-Douglas riding against the NDP's Bill Siksay in last summer's election, is now firmly ensconced in his position as executive director of the federal cabinet offices in downtown Vancouver.

Last month, Cunningham brought Tony Ianno, the federal minister of state for families and caregivers, to both the Seniors Summit II at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown and then for a short coffee and question session at the Seton Villa Retirement Centre in North Burnaby.

Ianno encouraged both groups to take advantage of the New Horizons for Seniors program, which provides up to $25,000 for community-based projects that help seniors participate in social activities, pursue an active life and contribute to their communities.
