Burnaby native Dave Bridges will be on stage at the Railway Club on June 17 when Graham Brown and the Prairie Dogs release their new country-rock CD, Stand Your Ground.
The 11-song effort deserves to be ranked with the best in Canadian country rock, combining the laid-back rhythms of Blue Rodeo with the edgy lyrics of The Northern Pikes.
Bridges, the bass player, grew up in the Government Road district of Burnaby and is now a single father living on the North Shore. He may be best known as the former bass player for the pop rock group The Colorifics.
Brown has a diverse musical background. Originally from Edmonton, where he founded the rock group Junior Gone Wild, he moved to Vancouver to form Brilliant Orange, which went on to become one of the top college/university acts in the country.
Not satisfied with the direction his band was heading, Brown then started up a group called Happyman, where he toiled for 10 years before finally releasing his first CD as a solo artist under his own name.
His previous CD, Good 'n Broke, received regular rotation on stations across Canada, in Alaska and in Europe, where it rose to number 2 on the Radio 1 charts in Belgium.
Graham Brown and the Prairies Dogs will host their CD release party at the Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir St., Vancouver, on Friday, June 17. For more information, visit the band's website at www.grahambrownsongs.com.
