More than $9,000 was raised to benefit the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House during the First Annual Burnaby Neighbourhood Car Rally.
The event, held Sept. 29, saw groups of drivers travel through the Burnaby, Richmond and New Westminster in a test of their driving and navigating skills.
The four-hour trek began with a breakfast at the Metrotown Bread Garden, stopped at the Pen Cafe, and returned to Metrotown for an awards dinner at the Firefighters Social Club.
The winning team was from the local Bingo Country. Special thanks go out to volunteers Guthrie McCrae, Shelley Mills, John Aupperle, Michael Killoran, Mary Anne Galey, Alice Zou, Blair Fryer, Dave Myles and Kimberley Barwich.
Those interested in helping out the SBNH Society can learn more at the group's 6th annual general meeting and recognition night taking place at 6:30 p.m., Wed., Nov. 13 at the Burnaby Family Life Institute offices at 6140 McKercher Ave. Please call ahead to 604- 431-0400.

THE JACK OF HEARTS

Jack Cyr was recently honoured as the Volunteer of the Year by the Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion.
Cyr has volunteered for 10 years at Variety Hotelier House, one of four inclusive child care centres operated by BACI, and he is very much a part of the children's lives.
Some of the children who first met Cyr when they were babies are now nine-years-old, and have many great memories of his helping out at snack time, taking out the recycling and helping take children to kindergarten and other appointments.
Some of the greatest tributes to his tireless efforts come from the parents of the disabled children.
"Jack is quick to offer a Kleenex and a hug when a child is hurt," said one.
"He loves to make the children laugh by dressing up in costumes and joking around with them," said another.
"Jack truly cares about the children and is always keeping an eye on them to ensure that they aren't in danger or getting hurt," said a third.
