An announcement that Prime Minister Jean Chretien will resign in February 2004 should put an end to the infighting that has plagued the federal Liberals this summer, says Herb Dhaliwal.
"It's been a very emotional day for myself and many others who have worked with the Prime Minister since 1983," the Vancouver- South Burnaby MP said Wednesday, hours after Chretien made his plans known at a Liberal caucus meeting.
Dhaliwal believes the party will now focus on the 18-month agenda laid out by the Prime Minister - an agenda that focuses on the economy, the environment and aboriginal issues.
When asked about his own plans for the future, Dhaliwal said, "I think it's too early to think about that. That's something over time that I'll think about. It's too early to make any comment on my future or a future leader."
