What was supposed to be a pool party among new neighbours almost turned tragic last Friday afternoon when two young boys were rushed to hospital after nearly drowning.
Fire and ambulance crews were called to a home in the Government Road area around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16 where two brothers, aged six and eight, had somehow run into difficulties while swimming in the pool.
Sources close to the incident say there were "a lot of people" in the water when the boys were spotted having difficulties, and two women jumped into the water, pulled out the boys and began CPR.
The boys, whose family recently moved into the neighbourhood, were both described as capable swimmers, and how they got into difficulty is still a mystery.
Fire crews from nearby hall #6 arrived within four minutes of the call and continued to resuscitate until an ambulance also arrived and the two boys were rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital.
While both boys are expected to make a full recovery, the older one was kept in hospital for several days.
Police report that they have concluded their investigation, and deemed the incident an accident.
